Victoria Cunningham Jewelry

Layering Jewelry with Effortless Style That You Never Want to Take Off

Victoria Cunningham JewelryVictoria Cunningham Jewelry is hard to resist, not because her designs are unique and edgy, the very opposite – they are simple and feel natural and familiar to the wearer. Her designs range from simple diamond pendants to dramatic one-of-a-kind pieces, using precious and semi-precious briolettes and rose cut stones to add vibrant color.  Set with diamonds, all are handcrafted using 14-carat yellow, white and rose gold.  Designer and owner, Victoria Cunningham, has been designing jewelry since 1994.  Known for her classic, clean designs, the plain truth is that her goal in designing is to make the perfect pendant, earrings or ring that you never want to take off.  Her pieces are lovely enough to stand alone but just as easy to pair and layer up. Victoria has a knack for putting things together to look effortless while achieving a tasteful thought out ensemble.  Based in Los Angeles, Victoria Cunningham Jewelry is a favorite among celebrities.  She has been featured in InStyle, InStyle Weddings, Bazaar, Lucky, Martha Stewart Weddings, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Fit Pregnancy and moreHer pieces, which range in price from $300 to $3,000, are a mainstay at high-end boutiques all over the country.Celebrities are constantly buying her jewelry, but most recently being Michelle Pfeiffer’s friend getting the World Peace Necklace.  Other big fans of Victoria Cunningham Jewelry are Teri Hatcher, Sandra Bullock, Melissa Gilbert, and Laura Dern.

Victoria Cunningham JewelryObsessed with jewelry since childhood, Victoria naturally began creating beaded jewelry as a hobby.  She has always loved jewelry for as long as she could remember since she was a little girl.  Victoria still has a note from her kindergarten teacher reprimanding her for taking a ring from another girl sitting behind her and not returning it.  Victoria was born an artist and was always singing, dancing or acting in plays, which was the only way she got through high school.  She studied Dance and Theater at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  Even today, Victoria still has dreams of swimming in the ocean and finding a treasure chest of jewels.  Her career in jewelry making started when she came to Los Angeles to be an actress and was working part-time in cosmetics at a department store.  She had been making wire wrap jewelry as a hobby when the Northridge 1994 earthquake hit and she lost her job due to extensive store damage.  After that, Victoria threw a small jewelry party for her friends and ended up selling everything she made.  She wisely took the money to purchase more supplies and after creating more pieces, she took a shoebox full of jewelry to a small boutique in the valley.  The owner ended up buying everything and referred Victoria to a sales representative, who then got her plenty of jewelry orders.  “I really didn’t know what I was getting into and the next thing I knew, I had a huge order right away and it was a little scary,” she shares.  While she could barely buy groceries, she had to buy gold wire to fill the orders.  Victoria considers herself very lucky to get into great stores early on.

Victoria Cunningham JewelryGiven her natural talent for creativity and aesthetics, Victoria is a self-taught jewelry designer.  She is always learning new methods and things, such as discovering hammering jewelry about a year ago, which is her new favorite thing.  Our Editor’s Pick is her breathtaking Rose Cut Stone Necklace, available in a variety of semi-precious stones in yellow or rose gold.  A rose cut produces a gem with a flat, smooth base while the dome-shaped top is cut with triangular facets.

Each stone is beautifully and carefully rose cut so that the splendor of the stone shines through and allows light to showcase its vibrant colors.  Stones are set with a 14k gold trim and accented with either a sparkling diamond star as part of the chain or a diamond briolette dangling alongside.  No two necklaces are alike as stones are different in size, shape, and color.  The necklace is also extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear daily as the back of the stone is sliced flat to rest nicely against the skin.  Victoria creates a breathtaking array of necklaces, but she loves her one-of-a-kind rose cut stone pendants.  She says, “Each one is Victoria Cunningham Jewelryunique and beautiful.  I always want to keep them for myself.  My designs for them are very simple because it is really about the stone.”  She considers her style of jewelry as simple and classic and she loves working in yellow gold these days.  “Sometimes when I think I am not really contributing to society in an important way I think about how many thousands of women my jewelry touches.  That makes me feel connected to something bigger than I can imagine.  I hope each and every one of them feels the love that went into making their pieces.  And when I am lucky enough to hear about the joy it brings to them, I am happy and I know I have a purpose,” Victoria says.

Victoria Cunningham JewelryIn her classic collection, Victoria loves the disk pieces she has been making for years as her customers never get tired of them.  Likewise, we adore the Gold Disk Necklace and other variations because they are practical as they are beautiful.  The 14k gold necklace is delicate but the gold discs hanging daintily off the chain add a classic and familiar feel.  Her pieces work well with every occasion, from work and play to formal evening attire.  It is no wonder she is the go to jewelry case in most of the stores who carry her work.  In addition to lovely disk necklaces in the classic collection, her Gold Disk Earrings are just as beautiful and make for a great, easy to accessorize pair that you can wear everyday and never want to take off.  Victoria’s talent is in the detail as the earrings here are 14k gold disks with a simple bird, Victoria Cunningham Jewelryaccented with a tiny diamond.  The perfect pair that is made with solid gold, showcasing creativity and has diamonds – what more could a girl ask for?  Victoria is the designer but has a fabulous team of people who work for her.  From the caster and wax carver to the stone setter and polisher, her jewelry is really a group effort, which is why it may take a few times to get her vision realized since so many hands are involved.  Her inspiration stems from the women in her life and in the world as Victoria is interested in each woman’s personal style and is fascinated by how women wear jewelry around the world in different cultures.  As the mother of two young girls, Victoria feels that is her true purpose in life.  She wisely shares, “Having children is a constant learning experience and has given me the gift of being selfless.”  She enjoys getting feedback from her daughters as she designs and hopes to inspire creativity in them.

Victoria Cunningham JewelryVictoria takes her time in coming up with ideas for designs and when she goes to sleep at night, she will quiet her mind by thinking about what she would like to create.  Sometimes, Victoria will want to do a variation of something she has already made or come up with something completely new.  “I try not to make things too complicated because I don’t have the patience to wait for it to be produced,” she says.  Victoria recalls being fascinated with Japanese Art when reading Memoirs of a Geisha, which inspired her to create her cherry blossoms collection.  She loves all of her cherry blossom pieces and is very proud of the designs because she hit them at the right time. Being very simple, beautiful and classic, they remind her that spring always comes and offers another chance to start anew.  We also selected the Cherry Blossom Necklaces as Editor’s Picks because they are feminine, unique and classic enough to wear daily and eventually pass down through generations.  Just a glance and you can see that the pendants in different shapes are etched with beautiful vine branches in fine detail that extend out to cherry blossoms made with sparkling diamonds.  The rugged edges of the pendants add a worn yet lace-like quality to the piece, giving it a very feminine essence.  Many of her clients build onto their collection of Victoria Cunningham Jewelry by layering many pieces together, such as stackable rings and multiple pendants.

Victoria Cunningham JewelryAnother style Victoria adores is her new mala beads with mammoth ivory hand carved pieces.  She would always notice people wearing mala beads in yoga and loved the idea of prayer beads and was inspired to make some beautiful ones with precious and semi-precious stones.  The Mala Beads Necklaces showcase a variety of colorful stones in a long strand and is decorated with spiritual centerpieces like a Buddha or ivory elephant.  With her necklaces, Victoria likes how all of the pieces work well together and personally loves to layer classic pieces with one-of-a-kind pieces and then add the malas beads.  “I like that it doesn’t look like all one artist but they all work together. I am constantly trying to achieve a look that seems effortless.  Like you just threw on the beads with your everyday pendant that you never take off.  I believe my jewelry is understated and yet can still make a big statement with the simple beauty of it,” Victoria says.  She is always adding new styles to her collection but continues to sell her most popular designs in her collection year after year for her customers.  She is excited when given the opportunity to offer something that speaks to women as individuals because she sees jewelry as an extension of the wearer as though it is a part of them.  Victoria is so undeniably grateful to be connected to thousands of people through her work.

Victoria and her husband contribute to environmental organizations and animal rescue organizations such as the NRDC and Best Friends for Animals while Victoria also donates to several fundraising events to auction off her jewelry.  Her favorite jewelry designer is Ten Thousand Things and she thinks those guys are true artists.  While Victoria has been busy with her two daughters for the past several years, she is hoping to expand her jewelry line again in the next five years.  Victoria is happiest when she is with her family.  She and her family were recently in France for a month and she loved everything French because it was classic, beautiful and feminine.  When she has a spare moment, she enjoys drinking good wine with friends and finding joy in the simple things such as her recent obsession with birds.  Her garden is adorned with trees, shrubs and feeders dotting the area, capturing a flurry of activity.  She has been lucky enough to witness the birth of multiple baby birds, such as humming birds and house finches. Watching the birds from her studio window always brings a sense of calm and tranquility.

Victoria Cunningham Jewelry is available at high end boutiques such as Nina at Fred Segal, New Stone Age, Newtwist, Jaimie Geller jewelry, Sundance catalog, and more.  To view her exquisite collection, visit
