Stonewall Kitchen

Handmade Gourmet Food That is Presentable to Please

Stonewall KitchenStonewall Kitchen, a gourmet food line and kitchen brand based in Maine, launched in 1991.  Founders, Jonathan and Jim, followed their hearts and innate talents in the kitchen, which have proven both rewarding and successful.  Jonathan King, President and Creative Director of the company, thrives in his talents for horticulture and cuisine.  His partner, James Scott, serves as the Vice President, and is often mingling with guests or shooting in the photo studio.  Stonewall Kitchen is unique and different from other gourmet food lines and kitchen brands on the market because the quality of their recipes and exceptionally beautiful packaging makes them one of the most awarded specialty food manufacturers in the country.  “Customers have learned that they can be assured they are buying a product of superior value. We are very aware and appreciative of the fact that they are not only purchasing a jar of jam or a sauce but they are welcoming the Stonewall Kitchen lifestyle brand into their home,” says Jim.  Stonewall Kitchen has won numerous state and food industry awards for their products.

Stonewall KitchenAs Editor’s Picks, we are in love with their crafted pasta sauces and handmade pasta collection.  For those who enjoy a traditional thick and creamy sauce, the genuine Italian favorite Classic Vodka Sauce is rich and velvety, as it is made with vodka and fresh Romano cheese.  The creamy consistency is perfect for coating fettuccine beautifully and packs immense cheesy flavor.  If you prefer a more rustic and lighter sauce, we recommend the Roasted Garlic Basil Sauce, highlighting the two essential ingredients in all Italian cuisine.  The hearty flavors of ripe tomatoes and pure olive oil are married to the perfect blend of garlic and basil.  This is great with pasta or as a topping for homemade pizza.  We all know that with quality pasta sauces, comes quality handmade pasta.  Stonewall Kitchen offers just that with its Handmade Pasta Collection, featuring a trio of the freshest homemade Stonewall Kitchenpasta available.  Made with all natural ingredients, the dough is kneaded, carefully rolled and cut, and hung to dry for 24-36 hours.  Why go through all the trouble of making handmade pasta when it’s been done for you?  The collection comes with Angel Hair Pasta, Tomato Basil Fettuccine, and Garlic Parsley Linguine.  The tomato basil fettuccine has just the right hint of basil with an undertone of tomato and is fabulous when tossed with roasted chicken and olive oil.  The garlic parsley linguine has the savory, sweet scent of garlic that is mixed with a fresh herb parsley bite, making it perfect with shrimp scampi.

At the time they started, both Jim and Jonathan were working in restaurants and possessed a great love and curiosity for fine foods.  Neither of them had any formal training, but simply loved quality cuisine.  In the early 90s, Jim and Jonathan were struggling to make ends meet with their jobs and decided to make homemade preserves and pickled products for friends and relatives as Christmas gifts.  They received plenty of positive feedback as people really liked them and wanted more for their friends.  Jim says, “Before we knew it we were at the Farmers Market selling everything we could bottle the week before. Moving into Stonewall Kitchengiving up our jobs and focusing on a real business seemed to make sense when we saw the demand for our products.”  For gourmet sandwich aficionados, the perfect gift is the Mustard Collection, a quartet of Stonewall Kitchen’s all-time favorite mustards.   This will please any creative cook or gourmand since it provides endless possibilities.  This fabulous collection comes with Blue Cheese Herb Mustard, Horseradish Mustard, Wasabi Mustard, and Roasted Garlic Mustard.  The wasabi mustard offers a zesty kick that is pleasantly hot without burning the nostrils.  The roasted garlic mustard is especially versatile with all meats because of its slow roasted garlic flavor that pairs well with anything.

Stonewall KitchenStonewall Kitchen offers many seasonal items that they launch or bring back year after year such as Peppermint Crinkle Cookies, Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies, Pumpkin Spice Quick Bread, Pumpkin Scone Mix, and more.   Every gourmand knows that a good store bought pesto is hard to come by.  Stonewall Kitchen offers not just one, but five different varieties of pesto.  Traditionalists will love the Basil Pesto, packed with garden fresh flavors of the finest basil, along with oils, parmesan cheese, walnuts, pine nuts, and minced garlic.  This summery pesto is great to keep around the house in case of emergencies for a quick meal with pasta, pizza or appetizers.  The savory taste of basil is sure to please as it is light and floral rather than heavy or overbearing.  Jim and Jon’s personal favorite Stonewall Kitchenis the Artichoke Pesto, loaded with artichokes and blended with fresh basil, parmesan, pine nuts, and garlic.  The delicate texture and taste evokes Mediterranean flavors and entices the taste buds as artichokes should, while also leaning on the healthier side.  Another item great to have on hand is the Roasted Garlic Bread Spread, which works as the ultimate base for perfect garlic bread.  Nothing could be easier than bringing home a loaf or baguette and topping it with this delicious spread of garlic goodness to bake.  This sharp garlicky spread is made with whole garlic cloves, parmesan cheese and parsley.  It delivers enough garlic flavor balanced with the herbal aroma of parsley.

Jim and Jonathan were living in a very early Cape Cod home in Kittery, Maine, when they first began selling on a large scale.  As they stood in their kitchen, stirring jam and looking out at the 200 year old stone walls surrounding the property, it gave them inspiration, and they named their business Stonewall Kitchen in remembrance.  When we asked what their favorite Stonewall Kitchen items were, neither were able to choose just one…but they did mention that their fridge at home is never without their Country Ketchup.  All of their products are Stonewall Kitchenmanufactured in their York, Maine, facility and distributed out of their Rochester, New Hampshire warehouse.  Their prepared foods and entrees are prepared by third party vendors at other locations.  Stonewall Kitchen also offers appealing beverages like coffees, teas, and mixers such as Bloody Mary, Pomegranate Cosmo, Bellini, and more.  We selected the Margarita Mixer, a refreshingly fun and tasty mixer made with pure cane sugar, lime juice, and orange juice.  The bright citrus flavors are perfect for summer nights as the mix is light and refreshing without being too sweet or artificial.  Add tequila, triple sec, and a splash of orange juice, and then sit back and relax as you sip the night away.

Stonewall KitchenHot sauce lovers look no further!  For our Editor’s Pick, we selected two of our favorite hot sauces.  The hottest pepper in the world is now bottled in a manageable yet fiery Habanero Mango Hot Sauce.  This sauce offers a sensational combination of habanero peppers, mango, curry and mustard.  Offering just the right amount of citrus spiciness with fruity undertones, this sauce does not numb the tongue or mask the natural flavors of food.  For Mexican food lovers, the most common condiment is kicked up a notch with the Salsa Verde Hot Sauce.  Made from a traditional Latin sauce of fresh tomatillos, Serrano peppers, garlic, and more, this fiery monster is a must have for breakfast burritos, tacos, or grilled meats.  The same authentic flavor and taste without the hassle and work is smartly delivered in this essential bottle of hot sauce.  Looking ahead, Stonewall Kitchen continues to search for more opportunities to open more retail locations and develop their international business.  As they continue to grow and enter their 20th year of business, they anticipate enlarging some of their selections within the line, such as their gluten-free products which have been well received.

Stonewall KitchenIf you love snacking but desire something different from the standard butter popcorn or potato chips, try the Aged Cheddar Cheese Straws, the ultimate snack for Cheddar lovers.  We selected this delicious snack because these finger sized bite size straws are buttery with sharp Cheddar flavor and melt in your mouth.  These all natural cheese straws are exceptional since they are made from a classic southern recipe using aged Cheddar.  Each bite delivers scrumptious cheese flavor and pairs nicely with a glass of wine.  We all enjoy munching on chips as a snack, but you can’t have chips without the dip.  Stonewall Kitchen has a great selection of salsas and dips.  For parties or as a guilty pleasure, the Chile Con Queso dip is as close to authentic Tex-Mex as you can get with its blend of cheddar cheese, tomatoes, jalapeno and chipotle peppers.  Stonewall KitchenThis creamy and smooth yet cheesy, spicy dip is easy to prepare within a few seconds in the microwave.  It is excellent with chips, veggies, or even tacos and enchiladas.  A healthier dipping option that is just as delish is the White Bean Dip, made with hearty, mild Great Northern white beans, lemon juice, garlic, and chili pepper.  Not only is it deliciously flavorful, it is also just as nutritious.  We love this dip for its creamy thick texture similar to hummus and the fact that it is packed with protein from the beans.

Celebrities are also big fans of Stonewall Kitchen as Kelly Preston frequents the Camden store while Sally Fields is often visiting the York store in the summer.  Not to mention, Jamie Leigh Curtis and Joe Torre are both fans of Stonewall Kitchen.  Some of their most popular items include the Roasted Garlic Onion Jam and Wild Maine Blueberry Jam, which are two of their staple products they have carried since the beginning and continue to be their bestsellers today.

Jim and Jonathan would like to add, “We want to thank our loyal customers some of whom have been with us since the farmers market. Without them and our terrific employees we would never be where we are today.”  While they are thrilled with their success, they remain aware that there are a lot of people out there that have yet to enjoy Stonewall Kitchen products.  Jim and Jonathan look forward to ‘spreading the word’ for the next 20 years!  Stonewall Kitchen is available in over 6,000 retailers worldwide and can also be found at Whole Foods, Crate & Barrel and Sur la Table as well as their website
