Rachel Leigh Jewelry

Vintage Yet Contemporary Sparkles
Rachel Blumenthal is the designer and founder of Rachel Leigh Jewelry, which she describes as “vintage inspired, keepsake jewelry that is relevant and contemporary and fun to wear.” Rachel Leigh aims to give customers the most fashionable yet wearable jewelry at the highest quality and the most accessible price. Her collection loves color and her customers are always guaranteed to find tons of colors to choose from each season. Rachel Leigh has been loved by many celebrities, including Emmy Rossum, Kate Hudson and Leighton Meester.
As a former Yves Saint Laurent publicist, she never imagined she would become a jewelry designer. After designing a ring for her mom’s birthday, it was spotted by a Lucky magazine editor, who then featured her as “One to Watch,” a spotlight on up-and-coming designers. One month later, Daily Candy featured her rings and the interest from both features was overwhelming. Rachel decided to take a risk and set up shop in her living room to launch her brand. While that was over six years ago, she has continued to catch the attention of the fashion world and magazines nationwide.
We love the Peridot McInnus Studs for its sophisticated rectangular shape and burst of color. Sparkling bright green Emerald-cut peridot studs are bordered with light green pave crystals in a shiny gunmetal plating. Measuring 1/2 inch in length, these studs are cutting edge while remaining glamorous enough for an evening out. From a very young age, Rachel styled herself in multiple outfits a day and was always involved in arts and crafts. She was also a competitive figure skater for many years and even designed her own outfits. Rachel did not know anyone who worked in fashion while growing up so the concept of working in the industry did not seem tangible to her. She knew she loved fashion but never thought it could actually become her profession. She likes to think her natural creativity stems from her parents, as her mother is an artist and father a surgeon who used to make her mom jewelry in dental school. Rachel doubled majored in Economics and Political Science at Tufts University.
Rachel has her own personal favorites from her line. She wears her Zelda Cluster Studs daily as they have replaced her classic diamond studs because they are perfect for day and evening. She also adores her Zelda Waltz Cluster Necklace because it is perfect for pairing with a t-shirt or a cocktail dress with its special vintage vibe. We selected this as an Editor’s Pick for its luxe yet casual appeal with its triple-layer center of gold plated bright crystals. Rachel loves her domed ring because it is edgy and relevant, but feels like something one would find in their grandmother’s jewelry box. Lastly, she likes her Simone Stacking Bracelets because they incorporate great colors and are perfect for stacking with personal pieces.
The Fuchsia Simone Ring is also an Editor’s Pick because it shouts old Hollywood glamour mixed with modern design. This wrap-style ring is fun to wear simply for its creative shape, but is an eye-catcher with its gold-plated luster and fuchsia crystal detail. The feminine and pretty combination of fuchsia colored crystals next to the marigold and clear crystals are flattering and flirty. Rachel Leigh designs three collections annually and carries over their most popular styles each season. Looking ahead, Rachel is focused on continuing to build the brand so that it becomes a household name. “Designing jewelry that inspires our customers to have fun and be spontaneous is our primary goal,” she shares. Rachel Leigh is sold at shopbop.com, who have been tremendous supporters of the brand since the very beginning. In coming up with ideas for designs, Rachel is inspired by the RTW collections, her friends and simply people watching. “I primarily design with a stylists mind – imagining silhouettes, colors and proportions that work with the clothes we are all wearing that season,” she adds. Rachel is the sole designer, but works with her amazing team that is extremely supportive in every aspect.
Our favorite bracelet is the Empire Friendship Bracelet in Fuchsia because it brings to mind the nostalgia of childhood friendship bracelets coupled with a more mature and couture appeal. Small black rhinestones are interwoven along with fuchsia and lavender string on a sterling silver chain link. Rachel has enjoyed her worldwide travels and found Japan and Africa as the most inspiring. She found Japan educational in the importance of retail in culture and was surprised how conservative they could be while truly embracing individuality. With Africa, it was such a respite from the chaos of city life that nature’s serenity really allowed her to clear her mind and become inspired her imagination.
Rachel Leigh collaborates with a charity each season to design a piece of jewelry in which the proceeds benefit that charity. Their upcoming collaboration will be with Baby Buggy. They also hold big holiday sample sales, where all of their pieces sell for 30-80% off retail. “We love seeing how stylish all of our customers are. Last time we did a week long blog entry on our customers,” says Rachel. Her favorite jewelry designers are Renee Lewis and JAR. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys shopping for vintage finds, skiing, yoga, and having dinner with friends. A life lesson that Rachel shares is, “Make what you love and aspire to do a reality.”
