Phoenix Roze

Phoenix Roze

Rare Beauty Ablaze with Simple and Delicate Jewelry

Phoenix RozeOnce upon a time, in a far away and bustling city called New York, there lived an artist, Guy Rozenstrich, who pursued his natural creativity and talent in jewelry making by opening up a little gem by the name of Phoenix Roze.  Tucked away in West Village, this jewelry store holds some of the most beautiful and unique jewelry.  Celebrities and famous models frequently shop his store as his designs are both brilliant and uniquely creative.  The style of Phoenix Roze is very simple and elegant and simply perfect for any occasion.  Phoenix Roze jewelry is unique from other jewelry designs in its simplicity and elegance since Guy does not follow trends.  He designs from within with a consciousness to bring beauty and simplicity to the world.  “A hint of gold and an allusion of a sparkle are as intense and as beautiful.  I find beauty in the simple and admire simplicity not just as a design concept but a way of living,” Guy shares.

As for his background, Guy studied fine art and considers himself a painter as he still paints to this day.  Guy earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from School of Visual Art in New York City and his Master in Arts in Media Studies and Film at The New School.  Guy was working for a jewelry designer while attending art school and slowly started designing jewelry for the company.  His designs were extremely successful and Guy received a lot of positive responses. At one point, he realized he could do it for himself and found a tiny space for rent while walking home.  The 10 x 4 ft wide alley was converted into a store and Phoenix Roze officially opened in 2006.  When he was first introduced to jewelry, he found that jewelry designing could be as creative and inspiring as art.  “I love to design simple, delicate and personal jewelry.  Even though what is popular in the market right now is big and chunky, I believe a simple design can stand the test of time as it is elegant; a whisper can be as powerful as a scream,” says Guy.  Just as a soft wind can impacts as much as a tornado, Guy feels that creativity and confidence can be translated into simple designs and that more is never more.
Phoenix RozeThe Black Diamond Heart Necklace is an Editor’s Pick for its beautiful simplicity in showcasing the stone itself without any ornate bells and whistles.  This gorgeous pendant exhibits a coal black shimmering diamond that is exquisitely cut in the shape of a heart and set with four prongs, dangling from a delicate 14k gold chain.  The 1.25 carat black diamond is the perfect size to be noticed without being loud or showy as its delicate appeal speaks volumes.  A great everyday necklace, this Phoenix Rozemakes for a thoughtful and sentimental Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day or Anniversary gift.  For an edgier and more rock n’ roll look, the Black Diamond Heart with Wings Necklace features the same black diamond heart as the solitaire necklace, except that it is accentuated with gorgeous rose gold wings.  The warm tone of the rose gold shines as the wings are spread open to beautifully compliment the ebony hue of the diamond center.  As worn by Katy Perry on the cover of Lucky magazine, this necklace is perfect for those who are young at heart with spirits always ready to take flight.

Phoenix RozeWe adore the Mini Initial Necklace, which is perfect for everyday since it adds a little bit of sparkle around the neck.  Guy loves this piece because it is dainty, delicate, and great for layering with more or worn alone.  This is an Editor’s Pick for its personalized appeal as you can wear you or your partner’s initial daily while sporting a slight shimmer of gold for that subtle appeal.  Guy was always surrounded by creative individuals as creativity runs in his genes.  His grandfather was a painter who only painted flowers as he found beauty in the ephemeral quality of flowers.  Guy always admired him as an individual and a painter.  His father was a jewelry maker and Guy recalls that as a child, he played with the stones and gold from his father’s drawers, imagining it was prized loot from a pirate ship.  Guy’s favorite material is gold and he loves working with it because of the way it behaves and the lush color it radiates.  As an artist, he loves designing personalized pieces for clients as custom jewelry is a big and expanding part of Phoenix Roze.  He shares, “I love to talk to a client and sense their style and create something that will enhance their energy, style, personality and individuality.”  Personal jewelry is another unique part of his business as he feels “jewelry is not just a commodity because it also evokes moments and memories,” as it can be a gift from a lover, a memory of a loved one or a special moment in time.

Phoenix RozeGuy shares his personal favorites from his collection, starting with his Thin ID Bracelet as it is a very thin and slimmed down version of the traditional identification bracelet we all know.  Whether layered with other bracelets or worn by itself, this bracelet adds a chic style to any look.  Another one of his favorites is the Pave Flower Stud since these tiny diamond studs sparkle so much it hurts his eyes.  “I just love the size.  You don’t need to wear huge diamonds to stop traffic because  I think diamonds chips can do the trick,” he says.  Guy also adores the Reversible Ring, which has a black diamond on one side and a white diamond on the other.  He likes how this ring is built in such a way that you can flip it and wear both diamonds. It is also a great conversational piece at a party as it can be easily taken off to show people and makes for a great ice breaker.  Phoenix Roze

For ideas, Guy finds inspiration in everything as he loves looking at nature and pulling certain elements that fascinate him.  “It is a form of abstraction and I ask myself what is in it that I find attractive and beautiful?  That is how I start the process,” he shares.  Guy also loves geometric shapes and architectural forms since they are always at the base of his creation.  He feels that he has a huge advantage from not studying jewelry making since he is happy he did not learn certain ways to make things as he cares more about the process than the technique.  The most important thing to Guy is the design and clear expression of creativity and simplicity, because if those elements transcend through the design, then it is a successful design in his opinion.

Phoenix RozeWe have all seen the many Hamsa hand necklaces on the market in gold or silver, but this version has been made at a whole new level.  The Hamsa Diamond Necklace is absolutely breathtaking and exquisite in person as the pave diamonds sparkle brilliantly in the Hamsa hand shape that is made of a soft rose gold.  The use of rose gold is a nice touch as the color is unique and rarely used with most designers.  This hand which is symbolic and meaningful in both Arabic and Jewish culture, represents blessings, power and strength.  Guy named his line after the mythological creature, the Phoenix, because it represents rarity and beauty of rejuvenation.  On a personal note, he likes associating words which reflect rebirth with him and his business.  Once he added the beginning of his surname, Rozenstrich, his company name was born.  Guy designs by himself and does not have a team designing his pieces because he considers the process of design to be very personal and intimate.  He does not show his designs to anyone or ask for opinions because he is very clear with himself in his focus and what he is interested in achieving.  With help from his production team and manufacturing people, Guy trusts his group of talented and committed individuals to make the best quality jewelry possible.

As an artist, Guy is always creating because he is inspired 365 days a year and immensely enjoys this part of his life where he is inspired and creative all the time.  He does not follow seasons or rules and his designs stand by on their own.  If Guy feels he can expand a design into a collection, he will.  Guy is one of the most generous and thoughtful designers out there as he always donates and takes part in charities.  “I feel very blessed in my life for all that has been given to me and to give back to society is a big part of my way of living.  I would love to do more because there is nothing more important when you realize that we are all part of the divine and our only true purpose in life is to love and heal,” he shares.  The Evil Eye Necklace is a modern take on the traditional blue and white evil eye that is seen worldwide on jewelry, trinkets, and more.  This version is delicate and alluring as the almond shaped eye is made of black diamonds while the center pupil is a dainty white diamond.  The contrast of the diamond solitaire against the black diamond eye is powerful yet unassuming.  Wear this all Seeing Eye at all times to ward of evil spirits or thoughts as a symbol of protection. Phoenix Roze

In five years, Guy would like to be in a place where he is even more creative, productive, and ultimately limitless.  He hopes to have many more opportunities to make his clients happy, in addition to a stronger business that is known for its high quality excellence and stunning creativity.  His favorite designer is Cartier because the designs are always impeccable and their quality outstanding.  “I strive to reach the same excellence and am inspired by the level of their brilliance,” Guy shares.  As for travels, he loved Italy and France as he loved the sense of relaxation from the French and the sense of style and appreciation for beauty from the Italian people.  In his spare time, he likes spending time or going for a run with his dog, as well as meeting friends for an after work drink.

While Guy started this journey in leaving his family and home to follow his dreams and without knowing where it would lead him, he realizes now it is exactly where he wants to be.  Only now is he starting to understand what his purpose in life is and how creating jewelry helps achieve this goal.  “I am a creative person and make pretty things to be shared in this world.  I am so happily humbled and honored to be chosen and to continue to be able to express my creativity,” he shares.  For Guy, to be creative is to be free and fearless and adds, “By being creative I get closer to the divine, which is in me. By being creative I express the divine, which is in me.”  Phoenix Roze is only available in their store in West Village.
