The Island Hotel

The Island HotelThe Island Hotel is a true getaway for both locals and visitors. Just because you live in Southern California, doesn't mean you can't have a great weekend getaway by staying local. The Island Hotel, with its tropical, resort-like ambiance, offers fine dining, luxurious amenities, and a full spa service, while also being just a short walk away from the shopping and entertainment at Fashion Island Mall. This lovely hotel with their AAA Five Diamond team truly pampers guests with their exceptional service.

The 20-story hotel features 295 guest rooms with 63 Executive Suites and 19 spacious Luxury Suites, and overlooks sunny Newport Harbor while boasting views of the Pacific Ocean and the nearby islands of Balboa, Lido and Catalina. The view of Fashion Island Mall is lively and bustling during the day, but tranquil and soft at night. Being just minutes away from the John Wayne/Orange County Airport, The Island Hotel offers relaxation and rest from the fast paced lifestyle of Los Angeles.

The Irvine Company assumed management of this previous Four Seasons Hotel in the Fall of 2005 and has been wonderfully run by General Manager Hansjoerg Maissen ever since. He believes, "Small details make a grand hotel", which is indeed true as everything resonates with precision and care to go above and beyond in pampering hotel guests. The Island Hotel also offers more than 30,000 square feet of banquet rooms and meeting space for large-scale business and social events. On a Saturday night, you can usually get a glimpse of women in glittering gowns and men in tuxedos attending charity balls and fundraisers. This gem is also a popular choice for weddings and receptions because of its spacious and luxurious settings, along with their reputation for top notch service.

All guestrooms are bright and airy, with shades of yellow, peach, and melon contrasted against European-style furniture, in addition to a The Island Hotelprivate balcony and a garden or water view. Guestroom amenities that add a unique touch to make your stay memorable include marble bathrooms, thick terry bath robes, luxurious bed linens, goose down pillows, and lavish bath amenities. Guests can enjoy services such as 24-hour Concierge, room service, business center, complimentary daily newspaper overnight shoeshine, and twice-daily housekeeping. The hotel also gets guests off to a great start with complimentary gourmet coffee in the Lobby every morning.

Guests can shop till they drop at the Fashion Island Mall right next door or indulge in some nearby golf at the Oak Creek Golf Club instead. For convenience, the hotel offers tennis courts, a fully equipped gym, a heated pool and whirlpool, and The Island Spa on hotel grounds.

The Island Spa is a full service spa offering wonderful massages, facials, and body treatments for both men and women. Unique treatments are hot stone massages, detoxifying masques, crushed pearl powder facials, organic carrot vitamin facials, body mud wraps, and more. Among the choices of massages available, the Lomi Lomi Massage, accompanied with coconut massage oil and Hawaiian music makes this an unforgettable experience like no other. This massage has been passed through generations and is a Hawaiian sacred healing art to balance the heart, mind, body, and soul through long rhythmic strokes. For convenience, there are locker rooms, showers, a steam room and a vanity area for guests. The best part is that when you are done with your treatment, you can wind down in a plush chair as you munch on fresh fruits, delicious pastries and snacks in the relaxation room.

Besides being pampered in all senses at The Island Hotel, your dining experience will exceed expectations. The Island HotelNestled within its grounds, the Gardens Lounge and Café, an all-day dining café and the Pavilion, an award winning gourmet restaurant, offers guests the best of the best. The Pavilion restaurant holds special wine dinners and brunches throughout the year in addition to its regular menu. Its dining area is airy with lush flowers and greens surrounding wide plush booths and pristine chairs against pretty peach tablecloths. The soft colors of baby pink, cream, and yellow, along with the soft lighting and tropical flora outside the windows is pure bliss.

Acclaimed Executive Chef Bill Bracken keeps the menu changing to encourage diners to try new and different items. Of course, being the man in charge, he can dish up anything you like, as we witnessed a gentleman at the next table ordering a bowl of nachos. Previously at The Peninsula Beverly Hills and already 20 years into his culinary career, Chef Bracken has a keen knack for combining American cuisine classics with globally inspired fare from around the world.

For appetizers, the Macaroni and Cheese with Truffle Essence and Taleggio Cheese is one of the best ever. Al dente elbows cradled with creamy, melted taleggio cheese and bits of black truffle produced a very sharp, flavorful taste. This gourmet mac and cheese is fit for royalty. The Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, which came with crisped taro chips, had a spicy tang from the diced onions, but was fresh, light, and succulent.

Going onto entrees, the Kansas Bone-In Steak is amazing. It is a large, meaty steak that is juicy, flavorful, and tender. Served alongside are the house fries, golden slivers of crispy fries tossed with coarse salt and fresh ground black pepper. I would seriously come back just for the fries because they are that good. Chef Bracken also has a great selection of seafood on the menu and takes pride in offering what is most fresh and in season. The Maine Lobster Poached in Butter arrives with generously sized pieces of lobster meat. The already shelled plump meat is tender and fresh and relieves one of making a mess to break and pry the meat from the shell.

For Dessert, Pavilion Restaurant offers a wide and creative of sweets. The favorites of the night were the Passion Fruit Panna Cotta Tart and the Chocolate Pyramid, which filled with super rich and creamy chocolate.

The Pavilion restaurant was the perfect end to a perfect stay at The Island Hotel. Here, you can relax, indulge, and enjoy yourself. Visit today for reservations.
