Holly Yashi Jewelry

Jewelry as Art
Holly Yashi was founded in 1981 by jewelry designer Holly Hosterman, Creative Director, and industrial artist Paul Lubitz, President and CEO. The success behind Holly Yashi began with these two passionate founders, who were graduates of Humboldt State with a vision for a "real career." They turned their one-car garage into a design studio as Holly began designing hand-cut animal earrings of brass and silver. As their talents merged, the company name was born from Holly's first name and Paul's childhood name "Yashi." Over the years, Holly and Paul worked together as a team and transformed their humble beginnings in the jewelry manufacturing business into a multi-million dollar studio. Holly Yashi's stylish jewelry revolves around amazing, luminous, and vibrant colors, and has been featured in magazines like Vogue and many television shows. All pieces are hand-made in its original location of Arcata, California and Holly Yashi maintains a portfolio of 1,000 pieces. Holly Yashi also does custom design work for Anthropologie and Sundance.
Over twenty-five years ago, Holly used her degree in Fine Arts to work on her ethnic designs involving gold, silver, and copper, while Paul's Master in Industrial Arts guided him in researching manufacturing techniques. The pivotal breakthrough was their discovery of a unique metal called niobium used in aerospace and medical industries. Niobium is lightweight, environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, and a great canvas for jewelry. Though twice the price of silver and nine times the price of titanium, they discovered that niobium produced extraordinary and breathtaking colors when dipped in an electrically charged bath. In addition to this process, most pieces also receive a secondary coloring treatment that is applied by hand.
Holly and Paul both possess a strong passion to give their very best to their customers. While many jewelers focus on producing mass quantities of cheap, trendy jewelry that lacks quality, Holly Yashi believes jewelry should be something treasured for years to come as a "patina of life experiences." They are both very involved in the company as they manage and oversee the increasing complexity of jewelry designs. "Holly Yashi offer timeless styles that feature colorful niobium metals, some with an accent of Swarovski crystals and pearls,” says Holly. Holly Yashi currently has five collections; Bohemian Chic, Modern Elegance, Reversibles, Timeless Romance, and Inspired by Nature. Modern Elegance features Swarovski crystals and crystal pearls in unexpected color combinations. Reversibles offer two vibrant colors and designs on each piece and "are especially popular with men in search of a fail-safe gift," said Holly.
Holly Yashi’s newest collection, Bohemian Chic, has a wide and diverse array of original and creative earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. We look forward to sharing our Editor’s Picks from the Bohemian Chic collection and begin with the elegant Mirabella Bracelet, which was also featured in OK! Magazine. This
adjustable cuff bracelet has sensuous textures as it is made of intricately cut niobium floral designs and sprinkled with semi-precious stones like amethyst and peridot set in this sage green bracelet. This cuff is also available in either a shade of eggplant or apricot, with smoky topaz, hessonite and sunstone stones. The Antonella Earrings are a summer favorite as they play up your feminine side with their soft filigree flowers and sparkling gemstone centers. The pair featured here is made of calcite and brass, but are also available in other blue with blue topaz and amber with labradorite. The bohemian glass beads decoratively linked above the filigree flower adds color and charm.
One of our favorite jewelry sets are the Gypsy Bloom Necklace and Earrings for its verdigris finish over brass.
The necklace is made of an antiqued brass chain with a lovely sky blue filigree flower atop a brass floral silhouette while the burgundy violet Swarovski crystal center of the floral pendant adds a glimmer of sparkle. The earrings feature the same flower pendants dangling freely from gold-overlay ear wires. Each necklace and pair of earrings is hand-crafted with a verdigris finish, creating a living patina that deepens and richens over time. This truly makes these pieces one-of-a-kind. This set can also be paired with the matching Gypsy Bloom Bracelet.
For something lively that reflects the bohemian spirit, the Love Spell Necklace and Bracelet (with bracelet pictured) is sure to bring out the sensuality in every woman. This necklace made of “gilded treasures, beads and intricately cut niobium sway and glimmer as you move.” The colored discs with floral designs in different sizes are made of niobium while the rest of the necklace is adorned with Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, Czech glass, and re-purposed materials from past collections. This incredibly lightweight and airy piece is adjustable between 21- 23” long and is both comfortable and eye-catching.
For a bolder statement, the Zendah Necklace is an antiqued brass circle pendant that is lavishly hand-set with semi-precious stones of garnet, hessonite, onyx, paua shell, sunstone, turquoise, citrine and period circling the pendant. This medallion necklace has a stunning display of semi-precious stones in all colors and sizes.
If you are a bead lover who wants some color to dazzle and accessorize your outfits, the Acacia Necklace is for you! This necklace is made up of an astounding assortment of unique baubles, faceted stones, Swarovski crystals, and Czech glass. A palette of colors from turquoise blue and cherry red to mauve, pink, and gold. The crystals and glass beads add shine and shimmer while the stones add a bit of nature’s touch. With all of its sensual colors, this necklace is sure to go with any outfit.
In the Timeless Romance collection, we adore the Miranda Pendant, featuring a golden filigree design layered over a thin pendant. The gold-overlay of the cut out design brings a touch of Old World charm. The chain itself is also adorned with petite Swarovski crystals and crystal pearls to add to the uniqueness of this piece. This unique pendant is reminiscent of a medallion on a Grecian goddess and looks sexy against bare skin. The Romance line was born nearly 18 years ago when Holly designed the first Romance Necklace (17322), made with faceted stones like citrine, hessonite, peridot, blue topaz, garnet, amethyst, iolite and labradorite, which still remains a best seller today.
Another popular collection by Holly Yashi is the Inspired by Nature collection, showcasing playful flowers, leaves, petals, and animals on jewelry made of pearls, crystals, and niobium metalwork. These pieces are inspired by the natural beauty of Northern California. The perfect pair for a romantic date is the Hawaiian Wedding Earrings, which are beautifully detailed and ultra-feminine to make you feel the same. Delicately crafted flowers by niobium metal in gold or silver overlay with intricate details are adorned with Swarovski crystals. These 2 1/2" long earrings dangle to catch light with every turn.
Holly says she still sees her first designs being worn by hundreds of women in their community who have collected their jewelry since the beginning. Holly Yashi's "jewelry as art" has a world-wide following and they retail in over 1,200 retail locations throughout the United States.
