Dana Rebecca Designs

Timeless Jewelry to Last a Lifetime

Dana Rebecca DesignsDana Rebecca Designs launched in 2007.  Dana Rebecca Designs offers classic and timeless jewelry that can be passed down from generation to generation as her pieces will be just as fabulous as the day they were created.  Many celebrities like Leighton Meester, Taylor Momson, Heather Locklear, Salma Hayek, Faith Hill, and Zoe Saldana adore Dana Rebecca Designs and have recently been spotted in her pieces.  Her stellar pieces have also been featured in many publications like InStyle, Oprah, People, Modern Bride, and more.  Each of her pieces have a distinct female name, which are all named after female family and friends (namely first and middle names to title each piece).  “These are the people who inspire me on a daily basis to design and create beautiful pieces. Without these women, Dana Rebecca Designs would not exist,” she says.

Her inspiration to launch Dana Rebecca Designs was a natural as having grown up in the jewelry industry, her heart was always in the business.  Her family likes to say that diamonds are in their blood as her father owns a jewelry manufacturing company.  Dana has always admired her father’s creativity and skill, which continually won her admiration.  Being the youngest and most adventurous of three children, Dana would literally jump on her father’s back and insist on traveling with him on his business trips abroad.  They traveled together to Israel, Switzerland and India on numerous occasions, but it was her first trip to India at the age of sixteen that she stumbled upon gemstones in Jaipur and immediately fell in love with them.  India initially inspired her with its colors and bold designs as the beautiful saris in bright yellow, oranges, pinks, purples and greens on a single fabric never ceases to amaze her.  Dana shares, “The pure confidence that the women of India exude has really inspired me to raise the bar and design with confidence and grace.”

After some persuading, her father agreed to help her design and manufacture pieces that she knew people would love and launched her first collection, ITSADANA, upon her return to Chicago.  She sold her jewelry at two charity golf outings and her entire collection sold out in just two days.  After her instant success, it became a summer ritual to travel back to India with her father every year and continue pushing the envelope with her designs.  She introduced her first diamond collection the year before she began college at the University of Texas and has been designing jewelry ever since.  Dana then went on to the Gemological Institute of America to pursue their Applied Jewelry Arts Program in Carlsbad, California.  After graduation, Dana Rebecca Designs was born in May 2007.  Her loyal customers and fans that had known her and bought her pieces when she was a teenager became her greatest supporters and could not wait for her business to launch.   “For the past ten years, every single client that bought my pieces when I was sixteen has continued to support me, they still wear my original pieces and continue to add to their collections with my new designs,” she shares.

Dana Rebecca DesignsA favorite Editor’s Pick is the Lauren Joy Mini Diamond Necklace in white gold.  This is a must-have for every girl’s jewelry box as this is the perfect everyday piece that can be worn alone or layered with other necklaces.  This necklace features a tiny circle pendant with sparkling pave diamonds on a dainty white gold chain.  The high-quality of the diamonds are evident even in this small pendant as it twinkles delicately while resting at the center of your collarbone.  Easy and classic enough to wear on a daily basis, you can easily dress this up by adding other necklaces or doubling up with another Lauren Joy Mini as they are also available with pave ruby, emerald or sapphire gemstones.  Dana loves these and often wears two of them together at the same time.  Even as a child, Dana was always an artsy soul and would bead necklaces, make collages or crafts in her spare time.  Dana says, “I think my creativity is most visible in the gifts that I make for others. I recently put together a basket for my best friend’s first born son and everyone who saw it asked where I had it made. I have always been crafty and love personalizing gifts.”  She also enjoys using her creativity in decorating, such as her passion in decorating her apartment, which “will never be complete.”  Like her jewelry, she is constantly designing new things and coming up with innovative ideas, which extends in her work space and home. Dana is never afraid of changing things and taking her ideas to the next level.

In comparing how Dana Rebecca Designs is unique from other jewelry designs on the market, Dana states, “I think our designs have pushed the envelope further than most jewelry lines. My ultimate goal has been to satisfy my customer’s basic needs of wearability. I think it is fabulous to have jewelry that is unique and special, but it is most important to have jewelry that is functional and wearable.”  Having grown up in the diamond business, Dana has seen women covet and splurge on pieces that will eventually sit in their jewelry box for the majority of the year.  Her goal is to design pieces that women can and want to wear everyday and which they can dress up or down.  Dana believes that with the broad color options in her collection and the risks she takes with metals, the selection that Dana Rebecca Designs offers is unmatched.

Dana Rebecca DesignsWe selected the Julianne Himiko Onyx 14k White Gold Earrings as a favorite.  These studs are playful and fun without being gaudy or overdone.  These miniature onyx stars feature a smooth front surface while surrounded with a pave diamond white gold border. The contrast of the bright shiny diamond border against the onyx catches the eye and looks great with any hair color. The tiny star studs measure 1 cm” and are also available in blue lapis and turquoise.  Growing up, her father made her promise she would never sacrifice her quality and to this day she feels as though her pieces are set apart from most designers because she uses high quality diamonds and gemstones and never compromises quality in order to keep prices low.   Her father is her favorite jewelry designer since he taught her everything she knows and has inspired Dana to take risks while keeping quality at the highest level.  “Both my parents have taught me that if I believe in myself and stand confidently behind my designs, then I will succeed,” she states.

Dana is currently obsessed with the Emily Sarah Bracelets as they are available in a variety of colors. This bracelet was designed while she was at GIA and she even has a stunning watercolor painting she made of the design.  “I have adapted the original style a little bit so that it can function as a bangle, but the design element that I created years ago is still the same,” Dana adds.  As for earrings, she loves all of her simple studs like The Anna Beth, Rima Nava, and Rachel Beth.   Dana explains, “The amount of wear you can get from these earrings is beyond imaginable. Customers always laugh when I say you will be back for another color. I am never wrong about that.”  Dana Rebecca Designs is also widely recognized for its exquisite cocktail rings and she personally finds the Allison Joy style with its carvings to be quite fabulous.  She finds the new technique of carving below the stone is extremely unique and although unnoticeable from afar, it is amazing when you get a closer look.

Dana Rebecca DesignsRather than designing according to season or a bi-annual schedule, Dana designs based on inspiring women and their style and her pieces simply come when she is ready.  Patient and willing, she does not force her creativity as she may design ten pieces in one day and then simply let another ten days pass until she is inspired again.  Dana Rebecca Designs will always keep the classics within its collection, but will also adapt new styles as talent and business grows.  Dana loves traveling and spending time with her family as they are all very close.  Her most recent family trip was a ten day vacation in Tuscany where they enjoyed each other, indulged in good food, and got plenty of relaxation.  Dana has high hopes for her line as she sees Dana Rebecca Designs becoming a national brand in the future and readily available to women who appreciate the finer things in life.  She hopes to have a team that is passionate and motivated to build a future for the company that will far exceed her expectations.  But for now, she hopes you love Dana Rebecca Designs.
